A Night Out With Gabe

Approaching midday on Saturday, my phone buzzes with an incoming call. Gabe's name flashes on the screen. Despite trying to convince myself otherwise, I had been eagerly anticipating tonight. But now, a sinking feeling tells me he's calling to cancel our evening plans. I answer, attempting to mask the unexpected rush of disappointment in my voice.
